What makes for Feel-Good Friday?

Our top tips for relaxing and unwinding before the weekend.

Hannah:

My feel-good Friday (and I’m pretty sure the highlight of my week) is this delicious tuna steak recipe that I made on Tuesday from Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients book! I got it for Christmas and have been dying to try out some recipes. I added my own miso and honey glazed aubergine because what other uses do I have for a jar of miso paste?

I’m getting to the end of Under A Pole Star by Stef Penney and clinging on to every word. This epic adventure novel was shortlisted for the 2017 Costa Novel Award and is packed with stunning Wintery landscapes, hot romance and beautifully realised characters – the perfect escapist read for dreary January!

Vicky:

Anything crafty or DIY. Last weekend I painted one of our walls which had been niggling at me all the way through 2017 (mud splatters and bike marks everywhere). I found the whole process from colour matching the paint, taping round the skirting board and even washing the rollers extremely cathartic! Call me boring – but I loved every minute.

I am currently reading an early manuscript of a new book coming from Patrick Gale (author of A Place Called Winter). A coming of age novel – the messages of hope, exploration and self-discovery are incredibly life-affirming. It’s an inspirational message to kick off my new year with!

Aimee:

My feel-good Friday treat is enjoying the mozzarella I made at this brilliant cheese-making course I went to last weekend. Not only did I get to wear a rather dashing hairnet, but I learnt all about the cheese-making process, got to sample some delicious flavours (with a whisky-soaked cheese coming out on top) and brought home a HUGE bag of cheese made by my fair hands. It was the most fun learning I’ve experienced in a long time, so if you find yourselves looking for a new adventure, head to Wilde’s Cheese. You won’t be disappointed!

As for my current read, I’ve been really enjoying Emily Phillips’ debut novel Trying, all about a couple’s journey to conceiving a baby and all the bumps along the way.

Helena:

I’m a girl who is easily pleased – this weekend will be spent on the sofa with a blanket, a glass of wine and series three of Peaky Blinders and I cannot WAIT. It might seem pretty dull but curling up on the sofa with a takeaway and Netflix is enough to put a smile on my face.

I’m making a real effort this year to read more non-fiction (much to my brother’s delight) and I’m currently reading This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay. This is such an incredible account of life as a junior doctor, it’s both hilarious and heart-breaking and I’ve been telling literally everyone to read it – I even read an extract from the book at a friend’s birthday meal last week.
