Team Bookends’ books to give to spread a little happiness

The number 1 key to happier living as advocated by Action for Happiness and Vanessa King, author of 10 KEYS TO HAPPIER LIVING is giving to others. When you think about it, it’s not that surprising but it did get us thinking about what books we would give our friends and family to spread some happiness. Here’s what we came up with:

Fleur – The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet – Becky Chambers

Small Angry Planet

Even if they’ve never watched Star Wars, don’t care about space and have never heard of Dune, I’d recommend The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers to anyone who needs cheering up. It’s an adventure in space, but it’s not about intergalactic warfare or guys chasing each other round in whizzing spaceships, it’s about friendship. It’s about a crew of very different people being thrown aboard a tiny spaceship, and somehow managing to get along.

Ella – This Book Will series – Dr Jessamy Hibberd and Jo Usmar

This Book Will series

If I was to spread a little happiness I’d reach straight for the This Book Will… series. Not only do they have a whole book on happiness but they also have This Book Will… Make You Sleep, Calm and Confident, which are the perfect companions to finding a little happiness. Each book gives the reader practical, proven techniques and exercises to help you fulfil goals and improve your mood. It’s the perfect pocked-sized guide to being happy.

Alice – Is It Just Me? – Miranda Hart

Miranda Hart

Need I explain this? The ultimate Miran-ual to that crazy thing called life. I think this is the perfect book to give anyone who wants to feel they’re not alone in a world that sometimes expects us to be perfect.

Abbie –  The Wrong Knickers – Bryony Gordon AND Bridget Jones’ Diary – Helen Fielding

Bridget Jones and Wrong Knickers

I had to pick two because I feel like this is the perfect pairing to guide any woman through their twenties and thirties with a sense of humour and joie de vivre, even when things are NOT going your way. Both Bryony and Helen, capture exactly the ridiculousness of life with hilarious accuracy and absolute authenticity.
